A brief lesson on Rocketry
First of all, it's not as easy as you might think.
The germans had to go through very rigorous testing to succesfully launch a rocket, in 1945, the germans had succesfully launched a V2 suborbital rocket.However, this wasn't a peace weapon. Germany would begin using these to bomb allied troops. This resulted in millions more dieing just before the end of the war. After WW2 The Allies took the german scientists, especially America, and made their own version of the V2 rocket. This rocket was the first ever rocket to take photos of Earth.
The Soviets
The soviets are the first country to succesfully launch a sattelite into orbit around the earth. However, this was likely propaganda for the communist party, since the soviets were overly-excited about the successful launch. On your marks.. get set....
The Space Race
The american public quickly realised that the soviets had an edge over the americans in terms of Space Technology. In a heartbeat, the former NSC, became NASA, The National Aeronautics Space Administration. The Soviets however, wouldn't go down without a fight. The Soviets launched the first man into space, named Yuri Gagarin. And then, another frightening discovery: The soviets were planning to make their own space station, and go to the moon. This is what sparked the now discontinued: Apollo program. This program would put american boots on the moon before the end of the decade. This was John F Kennedys final speech before he died in 1963.
Whats next for the USA and the world?
The space industry is going under a massive change. Ever since the space shuttle was discontinued in 2011, due to major safety problems, funding, and more, millionaires and billionaires have formed a new space industry, called the Commercial Space Industry. It consists of people you may or may not have heard of, like Elon Musk, Richard Branson, and even Jeff Bezos. Elon is currently in the lead, with this brand new prototype rocket, Starship. He aims to move humanity to mars, due to things like climate change, the possibility of asteroids, and anything that can end humanity in seconds.
A cost
Exploration comes at a cost, however. Between the beginning of the space race and today, at the time of writing this, 16 total people have died while going to space, in space, or returning.
